SUMMARY:High Resolution Multi-Material Additive Manufacturing: 3D Fabrication of Biologically Inspired Structures
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Dr. James C. Weaver\, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering\, MIT\, and Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering\, Harvard University \nAbstract: Nature produces a remarkable diversity of intricately architectured mineralized composites that in many instances far exceeds the performance of their modern engineering analogs. Despite significant investigations into structure-function relationships in these complex biological materials\, in many instances\, there is a lack of critical information regarding the specific functional roles of many components of these structural hierarchies. Here we introduce the technique of multi-material additive manufacturing\, which we employ as a research tool to unravel the functional complexities of a wide range of biological materials including laminated composites\, photonic architectures\, and low drag surface coatings. \nMore information here.

SUMMARY:IPCC Expert Nominations Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Join AGU for a webinar on the IPCC Expert Nomination Process \nThe American Geophysical Union (AGU) is hosting a webinar to provide insights into the nomination process for contributing authors for upcoming Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Seventh Assessment Report (AR7). \nWebinar Details\n📅 Date: Thursday\, March 27\, 2025🕒 Time: 2:00 PM ET📍 Location: Online (Zoom)🔗 Register Here \n📢 Don’t miss this chance to engage with the IPCC nomination process! Register today and take the first step toward shaping international climate assessments. \nBackground:\nEstablished in March 2025\, the US Academic Alliance for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (USAA-IPCC) is a network of U.S. universities that are registered observers with the IPCC. AGU is hosting the USAA-IPCC network.\nThe founding members are Colby College\, College of the Atlantic\, Dickinson College\, Indiana University\, Princeton University\, Rutgers University\, the University of California-San Diego\, Washington University in St. Louis\, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute\, and Yale University.\nAs IPCC Observers\, the USAA-IPCC members are able to submit nominations in response to IPCC calls for expert nominations. USAA-IPCC aims to increase awareness of authorship calls and expand nomination opportunities for experts in climate research and practice.\nOn 7 March 2025\, the IPCC issued calls for:\n\nIPCC Seventh Assessment Report (AR7) – Working Group I\, II\, and III – Coordinating Lead Authors (CLAs)\, Lead Authors (LAs)\, and Review Editors\nExperts for the IPCC Task Group on Data Support for Climate Change Assessments (TG-Data)\n\nNominations are solicited from Government Focal Points\, Observer Organizations\, and Bureau members. If you are a U.S. citizen or U.S.-based expert in climate research or practice and are interested in being nominated\, we encourage you to submit your materials for nomination to both USAA-IPCC and the US government process.\n\nRegister for a free webinar on 27 March 2025\, 2 p.m. ET\, to learn more about the nomination process through USAA-IPCC. If you are a U.S.-based expert in climate research or practice and are interested in being nominated to the IPCC for consideration on upcoming assessments\, we encourage you to attend this webinar to learn how to submit your materials for nomination to both USAA-IPCC and the US government process.
