Rutgers Climate Week: Subnational Approaches to Biodiversity, Climate Action, and Environmental Justice

Friday, September 25 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EDT

Subnational approaches flyer. Relevant info repeated in text below.

While climate and conservation goals are often framed at national or global scales, their success depends on how they are pursued at subnational levels. Drawing on diverse expertise across U.S.-based and China-based organizations, this panel discusses subnational approaches to biodiversity conservation, climate action, and environmental justice.

Speakers include representatives from the American Museum of Natural History Center for Biodiversity Conservation in New York City, the U.S. National Park Service in California, The Nature Conservancy in Beijing, and Green Camel Bell in Gansu. Each speaker will discuss their work on different aspects of biodiversity, climate action, and/or environmental justice.

Panelists will speak for about 8-10 minutes sharing their mission, recent work, and reflections on some key lessons from their work and practices.

Then panelists will have an opportunity to field questions from the audience and discuss their work further with one another.

Panelists:

  • Peng Kui, Science Lead and Interim Project Director at The Nature Conservancy Beijing Office (Beijing)
  • Jeff Martin, Research Social Scientist with the USDA Forest Service (California)
  • Ana Porzecanski, Director of the Center for Biodiversity and Conservation at the American Museum of Natural History (New York City)
  • Zhao Zhong, Founder and Director of Green Camel Bell (Gansu Province)

Moderator:

Jesse Rodenbiker, Assistant Professor of Geography, Rutgers University and RCEI Affiliate
