What is the RCEI Clean Energy Partnership?

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) and Rutgers, The State University’s Climate and Energy Institute (RCEI) partnered to build a clean energy workforce accelerator through pairing graduate-level classroom instruction with real-world public sector experience.

This partnership is defined by two master’s-level graduate initiatives: The RCEI Clean Energy Certificate & The RCEI Clean Energy Fellowship.

Renewable Energy, Technology and Energy Conservation

Human Dimensions of Climate Mitigation, Adaptation, and Resilience


Understanding the causes of climate change, the societal, economic, and behavioral impacts of climate change and the ways in which people and institutions respond to these changes.

Earth System Science


Researching the complexities and dynamics of Earth's physical, geochemical, and biological systems.

Climate Change Communication and Environmental Humanities


Raising awareness and inspiring action through the arts and humanities.

Clean Energy Fellowship

The Clean Energy Fellowship is a paid opportunity offered for Masters students in collaboration with NJBPU. Fellows are placed within the Division of Clean Energy (DCE) and the Office of Federal and Regional Policy (OFRP), where they gain hands-on experience in shaping energy policy and advancing clean energy initiatives.

Clean Energy Certificate

The Clean Energy Certificate is a 9-credit credential designed to provide graduate students (Masters) with interdisciplinary training in engineering, policy, and economics as they relate to renewable and clean energy systems. Developed in partnership with NJBPU, the program equips future leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to drive transformative energy solutions at the intersection of technology, public policy, and economic strategy.
