Rutgers Tropical Studies Symposium

Friday, October 25 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm EDT

Speakers: Christina Bergey, Mary Whelan,  Erin Vogel, Rutgers University; María Fernanda Figueroa Díaz Escobar, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México; Erin Kuprewicz, University of Connecticut; Marley Peifer, Nature Journaling and Education.

Abstract:Do you research tropical environments and/or work with people and communities in the Tropics? Do you teach or want to create courses on tropical environments or societies? Or perhaps you are interested in the Tropics as a fascinating area of the world? This symposium will feature six special guest speakers with experience working in Mexico, Costa Rica, the Amazon Basin, Africa, and Indonesia, as part of two panels, one on research and one on education. Join us for an afternoon of stories and ideas on new research tools and student engagement, on rainforests, orangutans, and beetles (without the mud, sweat, and mosquitos!).
