RCEI Affiliates Anthony Broccoli and Lisa Auermuller testified at a joint hearing of the New Jersey Assembly Environment, Natural Resources, and Solid Waste and Senate Environment and Energy Committees in Toms River, New Jersey on August 1, 2024. The committees met to hear from invited speakers on the topics of beach replenishment, climate resiliency along the State’s coast, and the progress of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Protecting Against Climate Threats (PACT) regulatory efforts.
Broccoli, Distinguished Professor of Atmospheric Science, drew from findings of the recently released report State of the Climate: New Jersey 2023. Auermuller, Administrative Director of the Megalopolitan Coastal Transformation Hub and a member of the leadership team of the NJ Climate Change Resource Center spoke to the tools, data, technical assistance, and training the Resource Center provides to help professionals and decision-makers understand, communicate, and plan for climate risk along the coast and about the training of students that these and other Rutgers programs provide to develop the next generation of coastal and climate adaptation researchers and experts needed to address climate change.
