Annually, the New Jersey League of Conservation Voters (LCV) presents their top award, the Sustainability Award, to “an institution or business that is at the forefront of building a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for New Jersey.” This year, that prestigious commendation has been given to Rutgers University, for its active and substantial initiative in integrating climate and sustainability as key cornerstones of its mission as an educational institution. Through internal offices like Rutgers Office of Climate Action, Rutgers EcoComplex, Rutgers Institute for Corporate Social Innovation, and RCEI itself, as well as interdisciplinary programs, environmental research, community outreach, and increasingly sustainable operational planning, the university distinguished itself as a proactive leader of climate-centered excellence and now accepts this award with both gratitude and the determination to continue taking committed steps forward.
