A new article from WRNJ details the significance of a recent major rainfall event across multiple portions of New Jersey, calling it a “once-in-a-generation event.” According to official measurements from the Rutgers University New Jersey Weather Network, rain reached up to 4 and more inches in towns such as North Haledon, Haworth, and Little Falls – a massive amount of precipitation in the span of a few hours.
RCEI affiliate John Krasting, the current state climatologist, added his two cents, noting how “‘for every 2 degrees [Fahrenheit] that the atmosphere warms, it can hold 7 to 8% more water vapor,’” emphasizing the increasing impact of climate change in real time. The significance of an abnormally heavy rainfall event such as this, among many others of similar magnitude, cannot be understated in the face of the planet’s current condition.
